LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — A 19-year-old violent felony offender is back behind bars after a traffic stop led the Leon County Sheriff's office to seize his gun.
Saturday evening, deputies say LCSO's SPIDER Unit stopped a car in the 2000 block of West Pensacola Street for an equipment violation. When they spoke to the driver, 19-year-old Joe Slater, they noticed him throw an object behind his seat.
Through further investigation, deputies determined that Slater had thrown a small, silver gun behind his seat.
A criminal history check later revealed that Slater was listed as a violent felony offender who is on probation for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
He was booked into the Leon County Detention Facility and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed, unlicensed firearm and violation of probation.
