TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Put the guns down and stick to sparklers.
That's the Tallahassee Police Department's message this New Year.
Police say they get numerous calls every year from people either letting off illegal fireworks, or shooting their guns in the air.
TPD Officer Rachelle Denmark tells us nothing good can happen from it.
"Responsible gun owners know not to take out their guns and just start shooting," said Denmark. "People can actually get hurt and killed. Celebration is not worth going to jail. It's not worth getting killed. Be responsible in your celebration."
Denmark also wants to remind people to use a rideshare service if they plan on drinking for the holiday.
