TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — During a time when people are concerned about violence in the community, Tallahassee Police need to fill 42 open positions.

Police say there's not a shortage of officers, but filling these spots will help the department improve response time and create a stronger community presence.

With more than 400 Tallahassee Police Department officers currently staffed, the department hopes to grow that number.

TPD says having more boots on the ground will only help make our communities better.

"It's a very rewarding job. It may be stressful at times but it's very rewarding to see the end product of what comes out, you're basically making a difference here," said TPD officer Damon Miller. "We do have signing bonuses, especially for those who have prior experience. Up to five years experience you get a give thousand dollar hiring bonus."

Officer Miller says people don't need to worry, the department is appropriately staffed.

Now if you are interested in filling one of those 42 positions, there are a few things to know.

To be eligible to join the squad you must be 21 years old. You must also live within 35 miles of the North Monroe and Tennessee Street intersection.
