TPD investigating homicide on West Orange Avenue

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.(WTXL) — Police are investigating after a shooting left one person dead on West Orange Avenue on Saturday morning.

According to the Tallahassee Police Department, the incident happened shortly before 2:45 a.m. at 1143 West Orange Avenue on Saturday.

Officers were in the area when they heard gunshots.

After hearing the shots, police quickly responded and were confronted with a crowd of over 300 people.

When officers attempted to get to the victim, the crowd surrounded the individual, making it difficult for officers and responding Leon County EMS personnel to assess the victim.

TPD says due to their injuries, the victim was rapidly placed on a gurney and taken from the scene with a police escort.

The victim was then transported to the hospital, where they were pronounced deceased.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, but did not speak with an officer on scene, or anyone with information about the shooting to please call 850-891-4200.
