TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Every child deserves new school supplies to be prepared for the school year. That's why the Tallahassee Police Department is doing what it can to make sure that happens and they need your help.
TPD's annual Pack the Patrol Car event is this Saturday.
A marked police car will be parked in front of the Target on Apalachee Parkway. They are asking the community to donate school supplies to help fill the car.
Backpacks, pencils, pens, paper, notebooks and any other neccessary school supplies are needed. Their goal is to collect supplies for 200 students in need in Tallahassee.
"And basically have them ready and prepared for the first day of school without them missing anything or saying, 'I don't have a pen, I don't have a paper,' basically allow them to be prepared for the first day," said Officer Damon Miller.
The Tallahassee Kawanis Club will also be there providing child ID's for kids, Leon County EMS will be teaching kids about bike safety, the fire department will provide fire safety education, and the Florida Highway Patrol will be teaching kids about safe driving.
If you can't make the event on Saturday, you can drop off school supply donations at TPD HQ at 234 East Seventh Street, Cricket Wireless at 1660 West Tennessee Street and 2003 North Monroe Street and Allstate at Bannerman Crossing at 3421 Bannerman Road Suite 203 until August 2.
