TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A new sport with an odd name is getting some exposure here in Tallahassee.

Tom Brown Park is now home to a Pickleball court. This Sunday, the city wants you to come out to celebrate the new court.

You can learn how to play pickleball and there will be prizes. Pickleball is a mix between tennis, badminton, and ping pong.

"It means that we can have tournaments where other people from other parts of the state can come and play and compete in tournaments," said Carolyn Allaire, a pickleball player.

"I think the biggest goal for us is to try and reach as many people as we can in Tallahassee," said Lenin Mongerie, who plays pickleball. "My goal is for us to get to the point where I can drive my van or wear my pickleball shirt and someone doesn't say what is pickleball."

Pickleball is especially popular with the seniors in town, many having to play at the senior center before the court was built.
