LEON COUNTY, Fla. — All this week Leon County is highlighting youth vaping for Tobacco Free Florida Week.
According to Tobacco Free Florida, about 25 percent of Florida high school students reported that they vaped in 2018, that's 50 percent more than the year before.
One health official explained why they are bringing awareness to vaping.
"I think its very important that we are spreading the info about the effects of e cigarettes or vaping and how nicotine is highly addictive to teens," said Chloe Hale, Tobacco Prevention Specialist.
Long-term health effects of e-cigarettes are still unknown, but evidence shows those who use e-cigarettes are at a greater risk of using regular cigarettes.
