THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL) — The Thomasville Police Department's message encouraging others to do something positive for someone else is going viral thanks to the selfless actions of one of their officers.

Monday afternoon, TPD shared an act of kindness from Officer Bryan Williams.

According to TPD, Officer Williams used his own money to buy a citizen a tent. The goal was to keep the man warm and dry from the cold and rainy days the area has been experiencing.

"Every one of us has the potential to do something meaningful for someone else. It doesn't have to be expensive, it doesn't have to be extravagant," the department wrote in the Facebook post. "A gift, an act of service, a kind word. It just comes from the heart."

The police department said their goal in posting it wasn't to hail their own efforts but to inspire the community to think about how they can give back to someone in need.

"The citizen gave us permission to post this photo to inspire others to think, "what can I do?" the department wrote. "The desire to serve is at the heart of policing."

Since sharing the post on Monday, the post has gotten thousands of likes and hundreds of shares.
