THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) — Officials are warning Thomas County residents to be on the lookout for a small bear.

Lorraine Conklin is the owner of Wild Animal Rescue in Thomasville. She has been doing this for 39 years and tells WTXL this is the first time an animal has escaped.

Down a long dirt road off Gatlin Creek Road in Thomasville, you'll find rescue animals of all kinds at Wild Animal Rescue.

Conklin recently brought in an eight week old bear from North Georgia. When she woke up this morning the bear was gone.

As time goes by, Conklin is getting more and more worried.

"I'm more than nervous. I'm very anxious because he is very little and there's no way he can make it without help. He needs food or somebody to feed him," said Conklin.

As she continues to wait, Conklin has laid out food in hopes that the bear will return soon.

Even the Thomasville Police Department was out searching the area for about an hour on Thursday. Unfortunately, that search ended and there is still no sign of the bear.
