TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Tallahassee Fire Department wants to make sure you're ready in case of a fire in your home.
TFD says fire can spread quickly. You could have as little as two minutes to escape. That's why it's so important that you and your family have a home fire escape plan.
Make sure you know where all possible exits are and draw a floor map if you have children. Also, choose an outside meeting place and once you're out, stay out.
"Once you exit a residence never go back in, the firefighters are there so if there is a pet or someone else in there, they will get them. But once you get out stay out," said Deputy Chief Richard Jones.
If you have infants or people with mobility issues, assign a family member to help them get to safety.
Tell any guests about your safety plan and practice it as a family once a month.
