TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — One simple plan could save your life in a fire.
The Tallahassee Fire Department is starting a Pre-Incident Plan Program.
The plan helps firefighters figure out the best way to respond to an emergency at a specific location. It contains things like maps, diagrams, and drawings.
Building walkthroughs by firefighters are also an important part of the plan. Deputy Fire Chief Richard Jones says this will help firefighters and keep them safe.
"When you go into a fire, into a building that you've never been into before by having this information talks about excess and egress or what's stored," said Jones. "It's going to keep them safe and it'll help them take care of the situation more rapidly."
Once the plan is finished, it's added to TFD's emergency response software.
If there's ever an emergency at that location, the information will be instantly available to responding emergency personnel.
