TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the armed burglary at Kevin's Guns and Sporting Goods that happened last month where 44 guns were stolen.
Deronatae Kerbo was arrested on 46 counts of grand theft of a firearm and one count of armed burglary.
According to court documents, the burglary happened overnight on April 22 but an employee didn't discover the crime until 8 a.m. the next day.
While the front door to the business was shattered, the bars on the inside of the door were still in place, indicating that the suspects would have had to climb over the bars to get inside.
During the incident, 44 guns were stolen. Of the 44 guns, six were rifles and 38 were pistols, 10 of which were semi-automatic and high capacity in function.
When they reviewed surveillance footage from nearby businesses, they saw an two unknown vehicles in Kevin's parking lot between 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. on the morning of the burglary.
Multiple suspects were then seen moving between the car and Kevin's.
A few days later, investigators said they received a tip from a person in Thomasville who said two men tried to sell him a gun. According to the tipster, the suspects showed him an article about the Kevin's theft and said they were the ones who did it.
The next day, Thomasville Police arrested one of the suspects the tipster met with and interviewed him. Ultimately, the suspect identified eight other suspects who helped him commit the burglary at Kevin's.
The suspects ranged in age from 14 to 22 years old according to the Thomasville Police Department.
Two of those suspects were identified as Kwantreus Duncan, 22, and 18-year-old Marchay Cromartie.
They were arrested earlier this month in connection to the robbery.
According to the suspect, the group drove two cars to Tallahassee to commit the burglary. One of those cars was driven by Duncan while the other was driven by Cromartie.
After the armed burglary, the suspect told investigators that they split up the guns, but Duncan didn't get any because he said he didn't want them. Because it was "Cromartie's idea to commit the armed burglary," he kept several of the rifles and several pistols.
During an interview, Kerbo told investigators that he was told to be "a lookout" for police while the other suspects robbed the store.
Investigators say Kerbo served as one of the getaway drivers during the incident.
Seven other suspects have been arrested in connection to this case, according to the Thomasville Police Department.
Based on the evidence, investigators found probable cause to arrest and charge Kerbo in connection to the heist.
After further investigation, the State Attorney's Office ordered that Kerbo be transferred into the Leon County Detention Facility and charged as an adult.
As of Thursday, Kerbo is being held in jail without bond on 46 counts of grand theft of a firearm and one count of armed burglary.
