WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — An 18-year-old has been hospitalized in serious condition after an early morning crash on Sopchoppy Highway in Wakulla County.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash happened Tuesday around 6:18 a.m. on Sopchoppy Highway (U.S. 319).

They say a 2004 Sierra GMC was going north on U.S. 319 when, for unknown reasons, the car drove off he paved portion of the road onto the east shoulder.

Troopers say the 18-year-old driver overcorrected his steering, causing the SUV to spin counterclockwise. The car then traveled across both lanes of traffic and overturned in a ditch, coming to a rest near the wood line.

The 18-year-old was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare in serious condition.

Charges are pending further investigation.

The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted by Wakulla Fire Rescue, the Wakulla Sheriff’s Department and Shands Cair 3 out of Perry.
