TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Red Hills Small Farm Alliance is helping Tallahassee during the coronavirus pandemic by putting their products online.

Longview Farms is one of many farms in the area that is continually working to keep up with product demand. Tony Brown and his wife are also taking precautions by selling products online.

“The first thing we’ve noticed is the demand there’s been recently for local produce and meats,” said Brown.

Longview Farms sells directly from the farm and through Tallahassee farmers market, yet they’ve had a hard time keeping up with the demand.

“We sold out of all of our chicken and beef last week and we’re kind of hurriedly trying to restock right now.”

Brown and his wife are limiting their exposure to customers. One way is they are taking orders through email. Eventually they’ll have an online store.

“We package their orders and then we have sort of a drive thru service so they come by, we drop the bags, they open the bags, we drop the bags in the seat for them and they pay everything online.”

Red Hills Small Farms Alliance was created to help support local farmers. Now there’s an online market offering pickup locations and home delivery for customers to find local farmers while practicing social distancing.

“There’s a wide variety of produce, meats, eggs, homies, granola, there’s everything you can imagine, even oysters that you can get online, and now can safely get it delivered to your house," said Jennifer Krell Davis, board member with Red Hills Small Farm Alliance. "So for a lot of people that’s a great alternative when they’re trying to social distance and to to be responsible and stay at home.”

The online shop takes orders Sundays at 8:00 a.m. through Wednesdays at 6:00 a.m. from your computer or smart phone.

Orders can be picked up or delivered to you on Thursday afternoons.

They ask that customers picking up produce not bring their reusable bags at this time, out of an abundance of caution.
