TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A sexual predator who's been convicted of child sex crimes multiple times has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for using death threats to molest a young child.

Maurice Goodson has been found guilty at trial of lewd or lascivious molestation. He was sentenced to 40 years in the Florida Department of Corrections.

According to court documents, the molestation happened in mid-April 2018. At that time, the victim disclosed that Goodson molested the victim at a home on Carriage Manor Circle.

The victim told investigators that she was spending the night with a family member when Goodson came into her bedroom and stated, "Let me see, let me see," and told the victim to pull down her pants. The victim also told investigators that Goodson said he "would kill" her if she didn't and used his hand to touch the clothing over the victim's private area.

After being touched, the victim got away from Goodson and went into another room. Later on, Goodson told the victim that she could come into the living room to watch T.V. in the middle of the night if she wanted to. Documents note that Goodson slept in the living room where the T.V. was located.

According to records from the Florida Department of Corrections, Goodson's rapsheet stretches back to 1989 and is riddled with convictions for sexual and violent crimes.

In 1990, he was convicted of sexual battery on a victim under 12 and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Goodson was released from prison less than five years into his stint but returned to prison in 1997 after being convicted of sexual battery on a victim under 12 again, sexual battery, and burglary with assault.

He was sentenced to 13 years for the charges but only served about 12 and a half. In 2010, Leon County court records indicate he served just under two years for domestic battery and just over a year for indecent exposure.
