TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — People across the nation have been told to stay home, especially senior citizens. However, being in isolation, away from family and loved ones can take a toll on their mental health.
Tallahassee's Senior Center is making the rounds, calling each senior multiple times throughout the week for check-ins and spreading positivity during this time.
"The first thing we did was start calling our participants to check on them," said Ruth Nickens, the health and wellness program coordinator at the Senior Center. "Do they feel safe where they are, do they have what they need?"
Nickens says those calls have become uplifting for those who frequent the center.
They will also be moving some of their classes and workshops online to give their seniors something to do during the crisis.
