TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — It's the first weekend in nearly two months restaurants will be open, and it happens to fall on Mother's Day weekend.
Are they ready for potential crowds?
In the heart of Midtown, Over Under Bar and Lounge will be opening to make sure that mothers feel special this Sunday.
"We are re-opening, but a very limited basis and it's just, we want to get our people back to work," said Bob Arbuthnot, the operating partner at Over Under. "We understand there's a lot of people who want to get out and have a little something."
Adhering to new CDC guidelines means Mother's Day out will be a little different in 2020.
Establishments will be using open-air seating and staff members will all be equipped with masks, constantly working to sanitize spaces.
"We contacted our ware-washing supplier," Arbuthnot said. "They were able to give us a product that has already been approved for COVID-19 disinfecting. It works in two minutes, which is much quicker than most of them."
One dedicated staff member will use the solution to clean and reset tables after each use.
"We won't do condiments in any of the drinks unless they're requested," said Arbuthnot. "We won't pre-cut any fruit, we cut all of that. It would be right out of the package and into the drink. So we're trying to do everything to make sure that there is the least amount of possibility for there to be any kind of contamination."
They'll only use paper menus, and have gone back to wrapped plastic straws instead of paper.
Capacity now is just 44 tables. It's the most they can do safely with social distancing.
"So we have got our space correct and we're going to see what happens," said Arbuthnot. "It's going to be, supposed to be a beautiful weekend."
Mother's Day brunch at Over Under comes complete with its own unique menu, featuring everything from traditional eggs and bacon to a special quichette.
While reservations aren't required, they are recommended because space is limited.
