TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Second graders of the Governor's Charter Academy got a surprise as a part of Black History Month.

Local recycling truck driver Robert Bowen visited the students and read them the book 'Memphis, Martin, and the Mountain Top,' focusing on garbage truck drivers during the civil rights protests.

However, the real surprise came after the reading. The kids got a tour of the recycling truck.

"It's wonderful to be able to come out and let the kids know how important it is to recycle and let them see the truck," said Bowen.

Bowen was selected as a unsung hero in this years TCC's African American History Calendar.

He was nominated for being kind, caring, and giving back to his community.
