TPD: Man arrested in ambush stabbing attack on Park Avenue

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Tallahassee police say the suspect who ambushed a homeowner on Park Avenue and repeatedly stabbed him has been arrested.

After a thorough investigation by the Tallahassee Police Department’s Patrol Bureau and Violent Crimes Unit, an arrest has been made in the stabbing that occurred on Friday, Sept. 25.

20-year-old Kervensly Devert was arrested on Tuesday.

Police say shortly after the victim was attacked in his home in the 600 block of Park Avenue, officers observed a man emerging from bushes nearby.

The man matched the description provided by the victim and tried to avoid contact with police.

After speaking with the man, police charged him with loitering and prowling that night, while the investigation into the stabbing continued.

Investigators conducted follow-up interviews and were able to link the suspect with evidence left on scene at the stabbing.

Based on the evidence, Devert was charged with attempted first-degree homicide and burglary person assaulted.


The Tallahassee Police Department is searching for the suspect who ambushed a homeowner and repeatedly stabbed him.

On Sept. 25, police say they were called to a home on the 600 block of Park Avenue for a stabbing.

The victim, an adult male, said that he was sitting in the living room around 9:30 p.m. that night when he heard a loud knock on the back door.

The victim grabbed his shotgun for protection, opened the door and initially didn't see anyone there. That's when the victim told police he was suddenly was charged from the side of the porch by an unknown person.

The victim and the suspect fell into the home and started fighting, the suspect stabbing the victim five times. During the struggle, the victim hit the suspect multiple times with the stock of the shotgun.

The suspect fled the area after the attack.

TPD reports the victim’s injuries are non-life threatening, and say the man is in stable condition.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s, dressed in all black with short hair, possibly with twists. Police say the suspect may have been carrying a bag before the incident.
