TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — With this freezing cold weather we've been having in Tallahassee, you may want to make sure the pipes in your home are taken care of.
The owner of Mr. Rooter Plumbing in Tallahassee tells ABC 27 they constantly receive calls about pipes breaking from being frozen with this cold weather.
The owner, Justin Tillman, says people need to take a look at the stability of their pipes and make sure they are not leaking or showing signs of breaking.
Letting your faucets drip and using even a blanket are just the simple ways that Tillman says can help prevent damage and having to give him a call.
"Well if someone wants to prevent that from happening, the best advice I can give is to allow your faucets to drip at night and especially allow the outdoor faucets to drip at night," said Tillman. "If you have a backflow preventer outside and it doesn't have any protection like one of the plastic rocks or something like that, you can cover it up with a blanket."
Tillman also says that around this time of the year is when a majority of the calls they receive for work needed in Tallahassee is because of pipes busting when it gets cold outside and people not knowing the best precautions to take to prevent it from happening.
