TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Shelter animals from all over the area are waiting for a forever home.

PetSmart off Capital Circle Northeast hosted rescue groups to help "clear the shelter" of animals. It was a part of a national movement that happened over the weekend.

The adoption event's goal was to sell 12 animals. The shop owner says he doesn't doubt it will happen.

"We are just trying to save as many as we can," said Derek Willett, store owner. "I've been to the shelters and seen how these animals have gone through and the stories of the dogs that come here. Its one of the best parts of this job is making sure that these animals are getting into the right kinds of homes."

Some of the groups who joined Saturday are Best Friends Dog Rescue from Georgia, You Can Make a Difference, and Big Dog Rescue.
