TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A 50-year-old man has been arrested after police say he forced his way into victim's home and held a knife to her throat while he sexually assaulted her.

Kevin Howell, 50, has been charged with armed sexual battery and burglary with assault.

According to court documents, the Tallahassee Police Department was dispatched to a home on March 10 for a sexual battery investigation. When officers arrived, they spoke with the victim who said she had been dating Howell since Nov. 2018. At several points in their relationship, the victim said Howell had violent outbursts and seemed to get upset when she spent time away from him.

The day before, the victim said that she went somewhere without Howell, causing him to become angry. In the early morning hours of March 10, the victim awoke to him "banging" on the door. Hearing Howell's voice, the victim opened the door and Howell pushed his way inside.

That's when Howell pulled out a knife and held it to the victim's throat. The victim said he was "ranting and raving" while he walked through the rooms, accusing the victim of cheating and searching for someone else in the home. Eventually, documents say Howell pushed the victim down and sexually assaulted her twice while holding the knife to the victim's head and throat.

The victim said Howell said that if anyone knocked on the door of if the police were called, she would be "dead before they come in here because I'll kill you first and set this place on fire." According to the victim, he also told the victim that he didn't care about dying and stated, "I live to die daily."

The next morning, the victim told investigators that Howell acted like "nothing happened," and went to work. After he left, the victim ran away from the home and called the police.

DNA evidence was collected from the victim and impounded by investigators.

Based on their findings, officers found probable cause to charge Howell with two counts of armed sexual battery and burglary with assault. A bond of $30,000 was set for the burglary with assault charge. No bond has been set for the armed sexual battery charges.
