TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Race and Diversity. It's a conversation that can get a bit uncomfortable for some. Leaders in Tallahassee are taking that conversation head on.
Tallahassee community members along with leaders came together to ask the tough questions.
Basically, they've decided that the best way to combat racism is to talk about it. So that's what they are doing Monday.
Betsy Oullete-Zierden, a community member, says she understands the conversation can be tough but it cannot be ignored any longer.
“So many of us are naive about some of the systems that are deeply ingrained and Are hard to move," said Oullete-Zierden.
Facilitator Sue Gallahger presented statistics showing mass disparity between white communities and those of color. Including how the structure of the law can support that.
The group concluded that there are solutions and learning together as a community about racism is the first way to combat it in the future.
