TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — There's a new leader in downtown Tallahassee and she's no stranger to the Capital City.

Elizabeth Emmanuel is the new CEO of the Tallahassee Downtown Improvement Authority.

Emmanuel was born and raised in Tallahassee and now lives downtown.

She was most recently a program coordinator with Leadership Tallahassee.

She told us it was a "no brainer" to apply for the position and that she wanted to help the downtown area thrive. Emmanuel beat 22 others for the job.

We talked to her Thursday about what she'd like to see happen in the heart of the city.

"I think my vision is more so a collaboration with everyone else that's already working hard on making Tallahassee a better place," said Emmanuel. "What can we do to partner with people that have some really great things going on and help promote what realistically we all have in common, which is that we want to see Tallahassee become a better, more inclusive place for all?"

Emmanuel succeeds Paige Carter-Smith, who resigned after she was federally indicted.

Emmanuel officially starts on Monday, March 11.
