TALLAHASSEE, Fla.(WTXL) — Tallahassee Developmental Center has confirmed five deaths at the facility that were related to the coronavirus.

In a statement, Chief Operating Officer Kim Faustin wrote "We have had a total of two residents and three staff that have passed away. It has been painful and we greatly mourn these losses."

Faustin also explained that the center is making an effort to communicate updates with families and guardians of the residents , particularly more with individuals that are hospitalized.

"It is tough for families since they are still unable to visit at this time but we are doing our best to keep the lines of communication open," said Faustin. "We want to emphasize, if any family or guardian desires more communication, do not hesitate to call."

The health center says they are doing everything possible to contain the spread of the virus in their facility by following all guidelines from the CDC and Agency for Healthcare Administration.

Last month, the facility told ABC 27 that no one except qualified personnel have been able to enter the building since March 18, and staff temperatures are taken every day before entering.
