TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — What started as an idea two months ago has now become a new effort to bridge the gap between Big Bend communities.

The Social Recipe and We Are All We Need are teaming together to create a community book drive that will donate books to Promise-Zoned schools throughout Tallahassee.

To connect youth to black stories and voices for Black History Month, they are collecting books from black authors.

"One of the most vital things in our community is learning, not just how to read, but applying the different stories that we learn that have been suppressed for so long," said Jalaycia Lewis, a student organizer behind the drive. "What we're trying to do with this community book drive is highlight those stories, so that they can continue to learn and connect with people that look like them and share the same experiences."

You too can help make a difference by making a donation or purchasing books off their Amazon wish list.
