TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — By just running or walking this weekend you can help animals in need.

Saturday is the 18th annual Tails and Trails event to benefit the Animal Shelter Foundation. All the money raised through the registration fees and t-shirts go directly toward the shelter animals and the programs in place to help them.

There are four races: A one mile, 5 & 10K, and a half marathon.

The majority of the races take place back through the beautiful and shaded woods of Tom Brown Park and around Piney-Z Plantation.

Organizers say this is a fun community event and it allows the dogs to get a little extra TLC.

"It get's people out, not only to experience our beautiful city parks but it gets them to the shelter so they can come in and interact with the dogs," said Nikki Rupp, a board member of the Animal Shelter Foundation.

The event is set for Saturday. Registration is at 7 a.m. at Tallahassee Animal Services (1125 Easterwood Drive, next to Tom Brown Park). The half-marathon starts at 7:45 a.m., the one mile at 8 a.m. and the 5 and 10K at 8:30 a.m.
