SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — The Florida Department of Health is opening a new drive-thru COVID-19 testing site in Suwannee County.

Authorities say individuals do not need an appointment to be tested. Individuals can also be tested without having any signs or symptoms.

A valid ID is needed to be tested and individuals must remain in their vehicles at this testing site.

Individuals can expect to be screened by a health care professional and will need to provide ID and basic health information.

They will then be routed to a health care provider in personal protective gear who will give instructions.

An oral or nasal swab test will be administered.

This is not a blood test checking for antibodies and the test results are not immediate.

Officials say it may take several days or longer for results.

After taking the test, individuals will be given information on what to do while awaiting the results.

Individuals will receive test results via the telephone number you gave at the time of screening.

Officials urge residents to please be patient, they say calling back to check on your results will not expedite the process.

Testing sites are staffed by health care professionals in medical protective gear who are trained to test for COVID-19.
