JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating after a few Jackson County deputies shot and killed a suspect who pulled a gun on them following a vehicle chase.

At approximately 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, a deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign in an area off South Street inside the city limits of Marianna.

Deputies say several attempts were made to have the driver stop the vehicle.

The driver refused to stop and fled while driving erratically to attempt to flee from the deputy.

JCSO says several deputies joined the pursuit in an effort to bring it to a safe conclusion.

The pursuit ended in the Bascom community when deputies were able to position their vehicles in a manner to force the driver's vehicle off the road and into a parking lot of a local store at the intersection of Hummingbird Road and Basswood Road.

When deputies approached the vehicle, the driver pointed a gun at them in a threatening manner that caused them to shoot him.

The driver, later identified as 34- year-old Danny James Hall, died at the scene.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents were sent to the scene, per JCSO'S policy. FDLE is investigating the deputy-involved shooting.

The deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, per sheriff's office policy.
