TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — An in effort to end hunger in the Big Bend, StarMetro and Second Harvest of the Big Bend are working together to collect food donations for those in need.

The annual Stuff the Bus event kicks off Saturday.

To help bring in donations, StarMetro will offer same day bus passes every Friday in February to those who donate non-perishable food.

Second Harvest says one in five people in the area are at risk of not having enough to eat. Staff hope the February food drive will help make a difference.

"This is really important time to increase our donations," said Shari Hubbard, the director of community relations at Second Harvest. "It will allow us to shore up our non-perishable food items and we are just really excited to get going and meet the goal for this year."

Their goal for this year is to bring in 220 pounds of donations.
