TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A stretch of road was blocked off Friday morning after the Tallahassee Police Department responded to a fatal shooting at Westgate apartments Friday morning.
Police say the shooting happened in the 3200 block of Westgate Court.
Officers and first responders arrived on scene just after 8 a.m. and provided medical attention to one adult male that was injured in the shooting. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.
Police say initial information indicated that the suspect was still in the area, so officers quickly cleared and secured the scene.
During this process, a second victim, who has not been identified, was discovered with a gunshot wound and pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation is still active though police believe there is no danger to the public at this time.
Investigators with TPD’s Violent Crimes Unit asks anyone who may have witnessed the shooting, but did not speak with an officer on scene, or anyone with information about the incident to please call 850-891-4200. They may also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 850-574-TIPS.
The Leon County Sheriff's office, the U.S. Marshals Task Force, K-9 teams and a SWAT team were all on scene Friday morning.
