TALLAHASSEE, Fl.a (WTXL) — It's "Back To School" Sales Tax Holiday Weekend and that means big savings for anyone looking for a good bargain.
As you can imagine this year is different because of COVID-19.
Academy Sports + Outdoors is following all local recommendations from the CDC and our local community and employees there are ensuring everybody has a safe shopping experience at their store located on Mahan Drive.
"Implementing the six-feet social distancing rule as well as markers being placed around the store for customers to get an idea what a safe distance is to stand from each other," said T'Keyah Taylor, the store manager at Academy. "We've got a team member disinfecting carts."
Items from clothing, footwear, and certain accessories costing $60 or less are tax-free this weekend.
This also includes school supplies selling for $15 or less.
The annual tax-free weekend ahead of the school year is hopefully lifting the financial burden facing many families during the pandemic.
A survey released by the financial firm Deloitte suggests shoppers nationwide are expected to spend more than $28 billion on back-to-school supplies.
Much of that shopping is happening online.
Those who do venture out are not taking any chances.
"It gives us a little anxiety that it's still going on," said Luke Grabowski, a customer at Academy. "But, I mean, we wear our mask. We carry hand sanitizer. We try to stay away, social distance as much as we can."
The tax-free weekend lasts through Sunday, Aug. 9. For more details click here.
