TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) — Storage Zone is doing their part to lend a hand to local restaurants across Florida that have been hit hard by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Daniel Corp is the Vice President for Storage Zone, which has 30 locations in the Sunshine State. He said he along with the President of Storage Zone and employees want to help local communities by supporting hometown restaurants.
The company is taking $50,000 and buying gift cards from 50 different restaurants. "Essentially, what we do is purchase a thousand dollars in gift cards from each restaurant and we promise to not use or spend those gift cards until this pandemic or crisis is over or subsides," explained Corp. "One restaurant used it to pay their chef for two weeks. Another restaurant used it to buy the paper materials and supplies that were needed to change the restaurant to a takeout restaurant."
So far for the Tallahassee area, McCormick's Deli and Catering, Mom and Dad's Italian Restaurant, Cancun's Bar and Grill, and Lindys Fried Chicken are the four restaurants that Storage Zone is buying gift cards from.
Corp said a couple more restaurants in the capital city will likely be added to that list. He also explained that restaurants are not the only ones benefitting from the gift card purchases.
"So, when this is over, not only are we doing the gift cards and buying the gift cards to give those restaurants the support and money they need desperately now," said Corp. "But the first responders and the people that are really the ones accountable to providing the great response and safety that we need, they are going to get these gift cards."
For now, Corp explained that Storage Zone is going to stick with restaurants in the same markets as their units.
