TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — What do you think the City of Tallahassee should do to make public transportation better and more efficient? StarMetro wants to know and now you'll have the opportunity to tell them during a 30 day listening session.
StarMetro is trying to improve the system and they have some proposed route changes to help meet customer demand. Now they want input from people living in the city and public transit commuters.
The proposed route changes are designed to improve the system's effectiveness and on-time performance.
StarMetro is hosting community meetings and pop-up events around the city within the next 30 days to get feedback.
City officials say they have heard what the community has to say and want to make massive improvements to the system.
"We are now coming to the community to get more input," said Dianne Williams-Cox, Tallahassee City Commissioner, Seat 5. "There is nothing like community engagement to make sure we are hitting the mark or at least we are trying to get there, so these improvements are only to make our services better."
Commuters will get the chance to have one-on-one consultations with StarMetro staff. There they can suggest alternative routes that best meet their needs and talk about the proposed frequency, route, bus stop, and schedule changes.
The final changes after receiving feedback are expected to go into effect Saturday, August 3.
The StarMetro community meetings will be:
- May 7 at C.K. Steele Plaza from 3-6 p.m.
- May 15 at City Hall from 3-6 p.m.
- May 20 at Providence Community Service Center from 6:30-8 p.m.
- May 23 at C.K. Steele Plaza from 4-7 p.m.
- May 29 at LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library from 4-7 p.m.
If you cannot attend any of those meetings, you can still review the proposed route change maps and give your feedback online.
