ALFORD, Fla. (WTXL) — A man has been arrested for assaulting his father after a two-hour stand-off in Alford.

On Monday at approximately 11:39 p.m., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported physical altercation in progress on 6th Avenue in Alford.

When the first deputy arrived, the suspect, Brian Keith Harris Jr., ran into the home and refused to come out.

After speaking with Harris’ father, deputies learned that Harris Jr. had battered his father.

JCSO says deputies and family members tried to reason with Harris during a two-hour stand-off to no avail. At one point, they say he armed himself with a loaded 12 gauge shotgun and racked a round into the chamber, though he did not directly threaten anyone outside.

Instead, deputies say he stated that he would kill himself if anyone tried to take him into custody and busted windows out of the house and caused serious damage to the kitchen.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., Harris finally surrendered to authorities without further incident.

He was treated for minor cuts to his hands and booked in the Jackson County Correctional Facility for possession of a firearm by a felon and domestic violence battery.
