BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WTXL) — A 25-year-old Bainbridge man has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a felon, and attempt to sell dangerous drugs after public safety investigators say he shot a man.
Justin J’Amaal Faulk faces four felony charges following the incident near Bainbridge Health and Rehab on College Street on November 11.
Bainbridge Public Safety officers say they received a call about a shooting on Wednesday, Nov.11, around 4:30 p.m. in the area near the Bainbridge Health and Rehab.
Upon arrival, officers saw a white male with a bullet wound in his right thigh, lying in the roadway.
Decatur County Sheriff Deputies arrived at the scene to assist.
The victim told officers he was walking towards the playground when a car pulled up, and a Black male got out, made contact with him, then fired a shot at him.
The victim was able to describe the car, which fled on College Street.
Officers patrolling the area saw a vehicle matching the victim's description on Faceville Highway and attempted a traffic stop, from which the car fled.
The officer followed the car as it turned on Alice Street and into the Harvest Homes Apartments, continued into the Courtes de Emerald Apartments, then exited the complex, crossing over Washington Street onto Alabama Street. The vehicle then made a left turn on Stinson Street and stopped at the end of the road.
According to the report, the doors opened, and two Black males ran from the vehicle, heading east across West Street towards Bainbridge Street.
The officer then found a female still inside the car, identified as DeAnn Rochelle Hayes. She was taken into custody and transported to Public Safety Headquarters.
Officers began patrolling the area of West and Bainbridge Streets, looking for the two male subjects.
The report states that officers in the area were told by a witness they had just seen two Black males run and jump over a fence.
Decatur County Sheriff Deputies patrolling in the area also noticed a male subject walking on Potter Street near Bainbridge Street, sweating and breathing heavily. His clothing matched that of one of the men seen running from the vehicle on Stinson Street.
According to the report, a Bainbridge officer contacted the subject, identified as 25-year-old Justin J’Amaal Faulk. A search revealed a 9mm bullet and a bag of white and yellow pills in his front pants pocket.
Faulk was taken into custody and transported to Public Safety Headquarters.
The shooting victim, whose name has not been released, was transported to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare for treatment.
Investigators recovered the firearm used in the shooting near one of the apartment buildings at the Courtes de Emerald complex. It was found to be loaded with a round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine. Additional unspent rounds were found lying on the ground near a storage building and near the fence that the two subjects had been seen jumping over Bainbridge Street.
Faulk has been arrested and charged with criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and criminal attempt to sell dangerous drugs.
