VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) — South Georgia Medical Center is opening more vaccine distribution sites throughout the state.

The Medical Center is getting additional doses of the vaccine while other counties, like Lowndes, struggle to get more vials.

Not long after opening its drive-thru vaccination clinic, the Lowndes County Department of Health is running into an issue.

A shortage of vaccines causing them to cancel more than one thousand appointments, while others in the area are ramping them up.

South Georgia Medical Centers is expanding its vaccination sites to Berrien and Lanier counties.

People getting their vaccine say they are glad they didn't have any cancellations.

"I was worried about that because I did see an article in the paper where the health department gave out of vaccine. I was looking on the South Georgia Medical site to see if there was anything on that and there wasn't," said Debby Hiers.

SGMC has vaccinated more than 4,000 people at its main campus.

The department of health is expecting its vaccination site to be closed until Wednesday.
