TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A sexual predator from Chicago has been arrested after investigators say he sexually assaulted a sleeping child in Tallahassee.
Darius Jackson, 39, has been arrested on three counts of sexual assault on a physically helpless victim.
Probable cause documents say Tallahassee Police were called to a home the morning of March 22 in reference to a sexual assault that had just occurred. When officers arrived, the victim in the case, a child, told police that Jackson had "touched her inappropriately."
The victim said that she woke up to Jackson on top of her while she was naked and had been whispering "sexually inappropriate things."
"Jackson made several statements, but the victim could not remember them all because she was just waking up," the probable cause document detailing the incident read. "The victim did remember Jackson stating, 'Why are you trying to make a big deal of this?'"
Police say data on Jackson revealed that he was a sexual predator in Illinois for aggravated child abuse involving a 12 year old child.
After speaking with the victim, court documents say DNA swabs were collected from Jackson, who denied the accusations. A sexual assault evidence kit was also performed on the victim.
In late May, investigators say results from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement returned, confirming that Jackson's DNA was on the victim following the alleged assault.
Based on the evidence, Jackson was arrested on Monday and is being held in jail on a $75,000 bond as of Tuesday.
