Body of drowning victim found in Suwannee River

SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — The body of a 28-year-old man has been found after authorities say he drowned in the Little River Springs and Suwannee River on Sunday.

The Suwannee County Sheriff's Office says they received a report of a drowning in the Suwannee River at Little River Springs on Sunday evening.

Suwannee County Sheriff Sam St. John says the man was swimming in the water right where the river connects with the spring late Sunday afternoon when he went underwater and never came back up.

Deputies from the Suwannee, Columbia and Lafayette County Sheriff’s along with Officers from the Florida Wildlife Commission worked late into the night to locate the victim.

First thing Monday morning, they resumed their search and located the man in the river.

At this time, authorities will not be releasing his name until his next of kin is located and notified.


Authorities are searching the Little River Springs and the Suwannee River after a 28-year man drowned on Sunday.

At this time, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office dive team, the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission are searching the river with their boats in an effort to find the victim.
