LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Counties and towns around Big Bend and South Georgia are dealing with major storm damage.

Since those four tornadoes in Leon, Gadsden, Grady and Decatur counties, local charities have stepped in to help those families. The Salvation Army of Tallahassee has been in the Baum community since Monday providing food, water, and even spiritual counseling to those in need.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office says at least 10 homes were damaged and of that 10, five were destroyed.

Outside of food and water, the Salvation Army is also providing vouchers for clothing, and their food pantry is open.WTXL spoke to one homeowner whose home was damaged.

He says he is grateful there are people out their that want to help.

"I thank them for coming, cause like, yesterday when we we're trying to really clean up. It was just us, out here cleaning up, and they came and brought us, like, food and water and stuff like that," said Sherrard Kelley. "Even the people, didn't even have electricity at the time. They came out and helped us out, so I sure am thankful."

The Salvation Army says it has been able to help with supplying food thanks to its recent food drives.

The organization will keep handing out food in the Baum community until the Leon County Sheriff's office says there is no longer a need.
