TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — In celebration of Safe Kids Day, the Safe Kids Big Bend Coalition spent the day at FAMU-DRS educating students on safety tips to protect them against preventable injuries.

Preventable injury is the No. 1 cause of death of children in the US and more than one million children around the world each year, among those being bike safety, fire safety and preventing distracted driving.

"We realize that preventable injury is leading cause of death for children in the Unites States and the state of Florida, so Safe Kids Big Bend Coalition came together collectively to bring this message to our children,' said Felicia Green, the coordinator for Safe Kids Big Bend Coalition.

Coalition members participating in Safe Kids Day include Tallahassee Fire Department, MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County Sheriff's Office, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and Leon County EMS.
