TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — We're learning more about the rules of road when it comes to riding e-scooters in Tallahassee.

You can in fact get a DUI will riding an e-scooter on the sidewalk while intoxicated. That's the word Tuesday, but not what we were told when we originally reached out to Tallahassee Police on Monday.

When it comes to riding those electric scooters police say the same rules apply as riding a bike.

We asked TPD Officer Damon Miller to breakdown exactly what those rules are.

"You cannot run the red light, you basically have to follow all traffic laws. Also when you're riding e-scooters on the sidewalk you must yield to pedestrians on the sidewalk as well," said TPD Officer Damon Miller.

Now something else important to note, wearing a helmet. Florida law says anyone under the age of 16 riding a scooter must wear one.

Despite your age, Tallahassee Police are encouraging everyone to wear a helmet.
