TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Wednesday is Dads Take Your Child to School Day.
John G. Riley Elementary is inviting male role models to greet their students before class on Wednesday. Research shows that students who have positive male influences in their life perform better in school and have fewer discipline issues.
The school is looking for volunteers starting at 7:30 a.m. You're asked to dress professionally or wear your organization's shirt.
"A successful day tomorrow is if we can just have an abundance of volunteers that are there to greet the students and say good morning," said April Knight, principal of Riley Elementary. "And to give them high-fives. And to be in uniform. So that those students will see that these are people from our community that have taken time out of their schedule to come and wish them a good day at school."
This program is part of a statewide contest. The school with the most male participants will receive a visit from Jacob Oliva, the Chancellor of Public Schools.
