TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Officials are trying to determine whether a waterway on Capital Circle NE has been contaminated after 440 gallons of a bleach solution leaked into a drainage.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection says the incident happened Thursday around 2:15 p.m. at the SCP Distributors facility in the 1200 block of Capital Circle Northeast.

They say a customer left a valve partially open to a distribution tank. The valve and release were immediately secured, however, officials discovered that approximately 440 gallons of 12.5% solution of Sodium Hypochlorite, more commonly known as bleach, were "released onto asphalt and concrete, and made its way to drainage."

Signs at the drainage indicted that it led to a waterway. Now, crews are trying to access the extent of waterway contamination.

SCP Distributors LLC, is a wholesale distributor of swimming pool supplies, equipment and related leisure products.
