TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — It was a paradise, of sorts, for African-Americans in Florida during the 1950's and 60's, one of the only public beaches along the coastline that they were allowed to enjoy.
Now Tallahassee Community College's Fine Art Gallery, is remembering Silver Springs Paradise Park, and the people that loved it, in a series of photographs.
The Remembering Paradise Park exhibit features black and white photos by Bruce Mozart, the official photographer at Paradise Park.
Paradise Park in Central Florida was the counterpart to Silver Springs, which is known for its clear water and glass bottom boats.
Professor Andrea Oliver is a history professor at TCC and she says she hopes people learn from the exhibit.
"I'm hoping that people will learn about another significant chapter in our country and state's history and just how far reaching Jim Crow segregation really was," said Oliver.
The exhibit will be at the TCC Fine Art Gallery until March 28.
