QUINCY, Fla. — Quincy City Commissioners have done something special for three nonprofits in Gadsden County.
In their Oct. 8 meeting, city commissioners decided to give $3,000 to three nonprofits in the area. The money being redirected from the commissioners' pockets to those organizations in the community.
The money was previously approved for a raise for those on the commission. But organizations such as the Gadsden Music Theater were not up for funding in the original 2020 budget.
After speaking with members of the community, Mayor Keith Dowdell suggested the money be given to the nonprofits.
"I had some very intelligent conversation with some people that said that, 'come on y'all need to think about these organizations,'" said Mayor Dowdell.
The approved pay raise would have given commissioners a three percent pay raise.
The money will be distributed evenly between Gadsden Arts and Museum Center, Gadsden Musical Theater, and Shaw Quarters.
