(WTXL) — Publix is transitioning to one-way shopping aisles to keep customers a safe distance apart while shopping during the coronavirus pandemic.
A customer service employee at the Publix on Ocala Road told ABC 27 that they are implementing this change to encourage social distancing.
"The health and well-being of our customers, associates and communities are our top priority," a spokesperson for the company said in a statement sent to ABC 27. "To help with customer traffic flow, we have added directional markings, companywide, to our aisles. This will allow customers and associates to better distance themselves while on the aisles."
This is the latest measure Publix has taken to protect customers and employees from coronavirus.
Publix has also allowed workers to wear gloves and masks and installed Plexiglas barriers between customers and cashiers at some locations.
The news comes after an employee at the Publix at Bradfordville Center tested positive for coronavirus.
