LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga.(WTXL) — Moody Air Force Base has declared a Public Health Emergency after being notified that an employee at the base's dining hall has tested positive for coronavirus.
The base was notified by the Georgia Department of Public Health. The dining facility was temporarily closed for health and safety precautionary measures and sanitization.
In response, Moody has also Health Protection Condition level to B. The dining hall is anticipated to re-open Thursday morning.
The clinic on the base is not able to test for COVID-19, but it can collect samples.
Authorities advise "Team Moody Tricare" beneficiaries to contact the nurse advice line if they feel sick. If your are a non-Tricare beneficiary, you should contact your primary care doctor.
The news comes as ABC 27 is learning of the first confirmed case in Lowndes County.
Georgia health officials say the person has been hospitalized. At this time, they do not know the source of the exposure to the virus.
We are working to find out if this case is the same one reported at the Moody Air Force Base.
Moody AFB leadership says they will constantly monitor the situation and provide additional information as it becomes available.
