VALDOSTA, Ga. — If you're looking for a fun family event this weekend, downtown Valdosta has you covered.

Ice skating makes its return to South Georgia.

Construction on the portable ice rink started Wednesday afternoon. It opened at 3 pm and will remain open through Saturday.

Children ages 10-and-under are only $5. The price is $10 for ages 11-and-up.

This is the first time in about 10 years that the city decided to bring ice skating back.

"Again we're in South Georgia. Ice skating is something we don't all get to experience. I think it was just a really great time with all the things we have going on," said Ellen Hill, Valdosta Main Street Director. "We have great momentum downtown. We have a beautiful new atmosphere and Christmas decorations down town. It was a great time for us to host something a little bit different."

Ice skates are included in the price of admission. The Rink is open until 8:30 pm Wednesday and Thursday.

They'll be open until 10 pm on Friday and Saturday.
