VALDOSTA, Ga. — A Valdosta man has been arrested after being accused of raping and molesting a child for over a year.

Gilberto Valencia, 44, was arrested by the Valdosta Police Department on Tuesday.

On Monday, at about 10:00 a.m., the Valdosta Police Department was made aware that a minor under the age of 16-years-old, had been a victim of a sexual assault for over a year within Valdosta.

VPD Detectives were notified and began to investigate the allegations. Through a thorough investigation, detectives determined that Valencia had sexual contact with a juvenile victim numerous times throughout a year.

Valencia is facing multiple charges including felony rape and aggravated child molestation. He is currently at Lowndes County Jail.

The victim also reported that incidents occurred in a jurisdiction outside of the city limits of Valdosta. Detectives are working with this agency as well, so Valencia may face further charges.
